The best family day trip to Ponza island!

Our family of four two weeks in Italy this summer as our family vacation (kids ages 12 & 14). This was hands down one of the highlights of our trip that we all will remember for a lifetime. Huge “thank you” to our guide, Mara. She is amazing and her passion for hosting a tour shines through! Mara felt like family for a day including swimming through caves in clear aqua water. a great day trip from rome

Everything went very well on our day trip to Ponza Island, from Rome. Pickup was at a central meeting point that was easy to find, the bus was comfortable and air conditioned, the guide coordinated everyone's purchase of ferry tickets, the boat was nice and our guide, Mara, did a fantastic job of narrating our journey around the island. It was not inexpensive for a family of four, but the quality of the trip justified the price.

A well-organized escape from Rome

A good way to beat the summertime heat, a boat trip, swimming through caves, blue and turquoise waters, lunch, wine, and a moment to spend on Ponza... I went on a Saturday, and this day trip exceeded my expectations. And especially, Mara, our guide, was incredible. She ensured that everyone had a memorable trip, and went out of her way to do so! She led a group of about 13 people from Rome to meet up with other groups that boarded the boat in Ponza that accommodates around 50. Both the Italian- and English-speaking guests were catered for. Everyone seemed at ease and comfortable on the boat. I highly recommend this trip if you are looking to escape the regular Rome sights and do something completely different. The cost was a little high - take note of the 60 euros additional for the ferry. However, if you are lucky, you may find a discount to reduce the sticker price a bit.

Perfect day in Ponza!

This is Italy’s best kept secret, spectacular boat tour with swimming in some of the most beautiful places on earth! Tour guide Mara was amazing and personable, she is a rockstar! I need to share this part because it was perfect, we stopped alongside a beautiful cliff where they served a pasta lunch with cold vino, brava! Then…. I’m thinking to myself how good would an espresso be right now?! The captain walks out with a fresh brew of the best espresso I’ve ever had! Perfecto!!! 5⭐️

Dolce far niente

We got picked up at Pyramide Bar and greeted instantly with our host Mara. Ponza is a true hidden gem that takes a bit of a time to travel to. You first take approx 1 hour busride to a small picturesque city near seaside and then cross over with a ferry. The commute to Ponza itself is a bit painfully long since you spend like 2 hours commuting to the island. I was a bit surprised that we were put together with other people - we were a group of 4 but in Ponza more than 10 other guests were put on the same boat as us. It would have been nice to communicate that beforehand. Overall we really enjoyed the experience to swim and sunbathe on an open-top boat and see the scenic Ponza coastline. It was not my first time here - I actually took the same trip 2 years back with Mara and enjoyed it just as much. Last time I remember we were also visited by a gelato-taxi which I this time really missed. I would've love to get more time to explore the Ponza itself, since we had only 1 hour before the ferry was going back to the main land. Also - the lunch served on board - tunafish pasta was same as 2 years back. I did enjoyed the pasta, but if written "wine and coffee you can get free on the boat" that might be a bit misleading. I will still definitely recommend this day trip and I will definitely come back for more, probably staying on the island for a day or two seems optimal - so you don't waste time commuting so much and seeing so little. Thank you Mara for being such a sweetheart. Everything you are doing - you are doing with your heart and it shows. You truly cared about all the participants on the trip and made everyone feel welcomed.

Great break from the city for a hot afternoon.

Bring some water with you. Though lunch was fantastic and water and wine was available at that point but not offered beforehand. Make sure you have a towel and sunscreen.

Beautiful Trip

This was the BEST! We took our family of 5 and it was one of our favorite days in Italy. Ponza is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Our tour guide (Mara) was awesome! It was a long day, but we expected that. One thing to note - the ferry ride to Ponza is not included in the price of the excursion. It was 60 euros per person, so more expensive than we had anticipated. That being said, it was well worth it!

I have good and … not so good reviews. Here are the good parts. The water and island are just beautiful …. Breathtaking. The lunch that was served on the boat was simple, yet delicious. Pasta Ponza and wine. The drive from Rome to Anzio (and from Anzio to Rome) was very comfortable and my daughter and I felt very safe with Diego, our driver. The ferry ride was about 2 hours, and although you couldn’t see out the windows, the trip was comfortable. Now the “not so good”—The boat was too crowded. Too many people made it feel cramped. I sat on the first level, along with about 30+ people. The top of the boat was so crowded, with people telling me to move because they were laying out. so I went back downstairs The speakers on the first level either were turned down, or just didn’t work. The tour guide, Ricardo, talked while we sailed around the island, but I could not hear the words he was saying at all. Nothing was ever fixed.

Ponza in one day feels a bit like cheating life. One moment you are in busy Rome and the next you are floating in water so blue it looks edited.
