About this destination

Choose your Ponza experience.

Ponza Island sits in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a volcanic crescent ninety minutes off the Italian mainland and the largest of the Pontine Islands. Most international visitors only have a day to spend here — so most of what we do is day trips and half-day boat tours, departing from the mainland or from Ponza itself.

Compare by where you're starting from (Rome, Anzio, or on-island), or by the kind of day you want — a guided full-day with coach + ferry + boat included, a half-day snorkeling circuit through the sea caves, or a private charter shaped around just your group. All in season. All captained by people who grew up on the water here.

If you're not sure which one's yours, the cards below sort by departure and group type. The tours are bookable directly; weather-dependent and fully refundable up to 24 hours before departure.

Why book with us

Open Up Italy is the team locals point you to.

01

Locally captained

Our captains grew up on Ponza. They know which cove is sheltered when the wind shifts, which grotto is empty before noon, and how to cook a perfect pasta dish and whip up an espresso in the tiny boat kitchen.

02

Dedicated trip leader, real attention

A dedicated tour leader who speaks English will be with you throughout the day, from start to finish. Sit back, relax and leave the logistics up to us.

03

13 years on the route

Our team has made the round trip to Ponza over 400 times. The transfers, the ferry, the boat, the lunch, the free time in town — every step has been refined.

04

No hidden fees

Ferry tickets (~€60/person) are paid at check-in directly to your trip leader when booking the Rome trip, otherwise it is included in your booking. We take care of the ferry bookings. We don't add port fees, fuel surcharges or service charges later.

FAQ

Ponza Island Tours & Day Trips — everything you ask.

The same questions come up a lot. Answers below — and if yours isn’t here, WhatsApp us.

Are these trips suitable for kids?
Yes. Children of all ages are welcome and we adapt the pace. Infants (0–3) must sit on a parent's lap (no infant seats on the ferry). It is a long day, so come rested.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Trips are weather-dependent. If conditions are unsafe, your captain calls it the day before or morning of and we reschedule or fully refund — no fee, no questions asked.
Can I stay in Ponza instead of returning the same day?
Yes — we often arrange this. Just tell us before booking and we'll tailor the itinerary. You'd join the day boat tour, skip the return ferry, and come back on your own date.
What's included in lunch on board?
Pasta picnic-style — tomato, tuna and olive sauce served with water, local white wine and espresso. Plain pasta with olive oil is the default veg/kid alternative. Tell us at booking if you need vegan or gluten-free.
I don't swim well — is this still for me?
Yes — swimming is optional and there are flotation aids on board for anyone who wants one. The boat anchors in shallow, sheltered coves; you can also stay on deck and just enjoy the views.
